Terrence J. Griffin, D.M.D.
Dr. Griffin is well known as a lecturer in periodontology and implant therapy both nationally and internationally. To date, he has lectured in twenty foreign countries. He has over 80 published articles and scientific abstracts in different journals. He is very active in research and currently has projects on-going in bone grafting, sinus augmentation, and implant therapy. He is particularly involved in cosmetic surgery including the use of platelet cell concentrate and a variety of membranes and bone materials in soft and hard tissue grafting.
Biographical Sketch – Dr. Terrence J. Griffin
This biographical sketch is meant to substitute for the Curriculum Vitae of Dr. Griffin which is much more extensive in details, and currently numbers over 50 pages in its entirety.
After graduating from Keith Academy in Lowell, Massachusetts, Dr. Griffin attended Boston College where he received a B.S. in Biology. He then entered Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he later completed his D.M.D. After dental school, Dr. Griffin served for two years in the United States Navy where he also completed a one-year fellowship in periodontics at Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. After the completion of his two-year tour of duty, he rejoined Tufts University as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Periodontology. He received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Periodontology after two years in the program.
Dr. Griffin joined the teaching faculty of Tufts University immediately after graduation. After teaching for many years on a part-time basis, he was named Chair of the Department of Periodontology in 1997. Since 2000, he has also served as Director of Postdoctoral Periodontology. He chaired a large department at Tufts with forty-two faculty members and twenty-eight residents. Dr. Griffin has had academic appointments at several other universities. He has served as a Professor at the Forsyth Institute of Dental Hygiene in Boston, and as an external examiner and consultant at King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia and Visiting Professor at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. He also currently is a visiting faculty member at Jiao Tong University in Shanghai and Xi’an Medical College in Xi’an, People’s Republic of China.
Honors and Awards:
Dr. Griffin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. He has served on twelve different committees and chaired activities for the American Academy of Periodontology. For the past twenty years, he has been Treasurer and a member of the Executive Board of the Massachusetts Periodontal Society. In the past, he has also served as the President, President-Elect, and Secretary of the same organization. He was Senior Ambassador of the Foundation for the American Academy of Periodontology for several years. For the six years until 2009, Dr. Griffin held the national office of Trustee and later was elected Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President, President-Elect and President of the American Academy of Periodontology. He also now serves as Immediate Past President of the American Academy of Periodontology for 2017-8. Dr. Griffin has also served as President of both the In-town Boston Dental Society and the Academy of International Dental Studies.
Dr. Griffin has held positions of active leadership in the Massachusetts Dental Society and has served on several committees. He represented the Metropolitan Boston District Dental Society for nine years as a member of the House of Delegates of the state society. He is also an active member of the International College of Oral Implantologists. Dr. Griffin is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Kiho Kang, D.D.S., D.M.D., M.S.
Dr. Kang is currently an Associate Professor and Interim Program Director of the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics and Advanced Dental Technology (ADT) & Research Program. He holds dental degrees from Dankook University in South Korea (D.D.S., 1989) and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine (D.M.D., 2002). He also received his master’s degree in Oral Biology from Georgia Regents University (GRU) College of Dental Medicine (M.S., 1995) and his specialty certificate in Prosthodontics from TUSDM (1998).
Dr. Kang has been a faculty member at TUSDM since 1998 and served as Associate Program Director of the Advanced Education Program in Prosthodontics and the Advanced Education in Esthetic Dentistry program (now Advanced Education in Esthetics and Operative Dentistry [AEEOD]) from 2005 to 2008. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists. He has lectured as well as published articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
